First Contact Physiotherapy Service

A first contact Physiotherapist (FCP) is a registered physiotherapist who is a specialist in musculoskeletal pain.

They provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions ranging from back and knee pain to sporting injuries. They also give patients expert advise on how best to manage their conditions and will refer onto specialist services if necessary. Pier Health collaborates with Pure Physiotherapy MSK to provide this service to all our patients.

Flexible appointment options are offered and these can be either face to face in a GP practice, over the telephone or virtual in the comfort of our patient’s own homes.

Our outcomes are significant.

  • On average, our first contact physios see c1,200 patients per month.
  • Of these patients (as above), 91.7% were seen without the need for onward referral.
  • 76.2% of patients seen by our First Contact Physiotherapists do not require further GP care.
  • Over half of our patients seen for this service have outcomes for self-management.

We have a matured collaborative relationship with Pure physiotherapy. We recently entered into an award together.
